Life with friends

If you find me frozen
fixed and staring

not sure about
the clothes i'm wearing

unsure of the way
my brain is faring

roll me over and
slap me awake

not too hard
cause I could break

and all your strength
is what I'll take

 i'll give it back
with what we make

A friendship
worth your soul

a conversation
over soup

about love and cookies
and the day
you unbroke me
The day I awoke

Today

when i last saw
yesterday's version
of myself -
checking myself out in
a faded mirror

i like today's archetype better

each day
learning,
blooming and becoming

more becoming

brighter

smarter

I hope

The way we met

it started in April
with two thumbs
lightly touching
warring for a win

two thumbs
became hands held

became husband and wife
mother and father

What you should know

“What you should know” by Laurie Molloy

I want to tell you things
you wouldn’t know
even if I told you

things that surpass
my imagination’s end

i want to say
everything
but often there’s nothing
left

except me
a person
winding down
deep into the couch
with the TV drowning
out my brain
in the background

I hope no one minds part 2

For this poem I took a bunch of facebook status updates and created a found poem

i guess we’ll see
what happens

fresh figs
the king

they would tell us
about it on tv

cute picture
couldn’t imagine a day
without her

Life in Person by Laurie Molloy

"Life in Person"

Everybody
is a phone camera photographer
sending pictures into space
all day and night

everybody sees
more and more
into each other's lives
every day

without talking
touching
smelling
listening in person

I can write
and you may read
but you won't know
my voice or intonation
the way my breath makes the page waver
how my eyes wander
and I talk really fast
while I read this

Summer's End

a whispering summer morning
greets me with a hazy eye
slowly rolling over
into a lazy day
at the lake

wind and water
washing and spraying
our bodies
as we forget the days
will soon be shorter
and the nights long

we forget
we forget

we remember
we forgot

so we go back to
the beach
back to the barbecue
and hold on

to our friends
to our memories
to our warm beer
to the stories
we tell about last summer
or back in the day

Birthday Parties

Swings, cake,
splashing in the lake

water, slides,
and kiddie rides

giggle, tickles,
burgers and pickles

singing, smiles
large toy piles

a special day
in every way

"Awake early" by Laurie Molloy

Awake early to catch a glimpse

Of immaculate silence

Untouched

Without breath

Missing the chatter

That goes along

With obligatory words

Unleashed from beeping

And buzzing

And banging

No one outside

No one at the door

Those in the house

Quiet as a mouse

Then the alarm

And the banging

And buzzing

Remind me I’m alive

The earth has returned

As it was yesterday

Grateful for my moment

Of silence

Amazed at the bounty

Of noise

So happy to hear

Little words

Love and Stargazing

stargazers, romantic watchers
of the sky, vast and incomprehensible-
the wonders that live amongst the
endless stars and galaxies.

Lovers dream and watch quietly
holding hands, amazed by how their
love is as eternal as the universe,
and as big as the all the planets and moons combined-
as wide as the longest arms stretched all the way out
as deep as the bottomless sea-
love like that not for the lucky

Love like that for the loving
for the givers
for the dreamers

Fleeting naptime

As the quiet moment passes
the nap, not quite long enough ceases
activity increases
i forgot i was busy
with business
dizzy with
dizziness
for a moment i focused
for a moment i formed my own thought

Reading bliss

I've been consuming books
like a tired traveler devours food and conversation
at a rest stop
re-reading words to uncover new meanings
like a person repeats their steps
to find their keys
delving into simile and metaphor
as someone who purports themselves
a writer
and as all the pages go by
the minutes evacuate space
without my knowledge
and i slip into a world
imagined by another
a world close to mine
as all of our lives
meet each others
with daily similarities
eradicating loneliness
when realized

Johnny's life

Splish Splash!
In the puddle I sit
In the puddle I stomp
on the ground I stomp.
My head hits the wall.
Thud...
I laugh
My truck hits the wall.
Thud!
Splish Splash
now i'm in the bath -
eyes wide open
looking forward
fighting sleep
life awaits
I am the world
Stomp
Thud.
Hello!

Mom's Pocket

There are boogers in my pockets
and grapes
maybe the cap of a
milk bottle
rocks and other things
i ask the baby not to eat
so he hands them to me,
as if a wonderful treat
and, they are

treats I mean
everything he gives me
i keep a jar
for rocks that he gives me
and when he's asleep
and restful time awaits

i empty my pockets
throw out the boogers and grapes
and the the rocks go into a
special jar
a jar for rocks
Johnny's treats
that he isn't allowed to eat
but I will keep

Simple Joys by Laurie Molloy

Soft hands
and giant feet -
still smaller than mine,
momentarily-
a moment
gone so quickly,
then another
disappears.
cherish each small breath-
tiny utterances of pieces
of sounds that try
to turn into words
eventually-
one...two...three
the simple starts of speaking
I teach.
he looks at me knowingly
with everything in his mind;
he holds on to whatever
I give him.

Doobles

The Dooble's do
The Dooble's don't

take long naps
wake up at 5

send kindnesses to people
yell or speak cruel words

learn new things
refuse to try

The Dooble's are good
The Dooble's are nice

The Dooble's do
help their neighbors

by being friendly
and doing favors

The Dooble's don't
stay inside

ignore their friends
and cry and hide

The Dooble's are
who we aim to be

happy, heroic,
funny, and free

The Dooble's don't
forget to aim high

The Dooble's do
question why

The Dooble's do
reach for the sky

It's great to be Dooble
so I hope you will

join our Dooble family
We have space to fill

I hope no one minds

For this poem I took a bunch of facebook status updates and created a found poem

a bad day it is not
today
is going to be rad

Pat picks
last week's
meatball soup

brushed my teeth
my hair ...
it is
too big
to prosecute

our turn
it's yummy

I'd Like

i'd like to know
your thoughts on this

i'd like to know
i'd like a kiss

i'd like a day
with nothing to miss

full of life
immersed in bliss

i'd like to know
the answer why?

the days go on
and by and by

and people stay
and others good-bye

and the sun shines
and the sky is black

i'd like to know
if time ends

if time is real
if life is real

i'd like to know
tell me please

what is right
what is wrong

who is right?
anyone...

i'd like to know
your thoughts on this
tell me please
the answer why

The Other Half

your thoughts or mine
the end of my sentence
thanks
i needed the rest

it got lost
but you were there
bringing in the line

i got lost
in my own...

i got lost
on my own

lost in the words
the ones i own

thanks
