beyond the barn door
night rises to reach the sky
purple dims to blue

haves and have nots
in the morning
i do a dance
shake a little
put on my pants
drink some coffee
go off
on one of my
rants
one of the many
about the cans/the can'ts
the haves/have nots
the poor/the snots
those who have little
those who have
lots
i roll up my sleeves
and take in a breath
of the morning wind
fresh on my early skin
all i have
is all there is
and what there is
is beautiful
i do a dance
shake a little
put on my pants
drink some coffee
go off
on one of my
rants
one of the many
about the cans/the can'ts

closer still
film madness
it's free
so
much to see
call me
we'll watch movies
late into night
wrapped up in fright
and blankets
the sins we seek
will set us free
it's you ... it's me
we're bound to win
the film fades
reeling thin
it's you and me
rolling again
the spools are tools
to spin our spirits
round, round
closer still
the end
it's free
so
much to see
call me
we'll watch movies
late into night
wrapped up in fright
and blankets
the sins we seek
will set us free
it's you ... it's me
we're bound to win
the film fades
reeling thin
it's you and me
rolling again
the spools are tools

round, round
closer still
the end
sun
its outta sight
this morning light
sun so bright
i pray for night
a strong start
before we part
let's share a cup
and listen up
hear the prayer
of the winds
and the plea
of the clouds
the warble of the birds
and the squirrel's hymn
the dew of the grass
the bells of mass
the children's laughs
along their paths
this miracle of day
for that we say
thank you world
for this ray
of sun
this morning light
sun so bright
i pray for night
a strong start
before we part
let's share a cup
and listen up
hear the prayer

promise
what i found
downtown
in your heart
was a start
where we went
it was grand
to a place
a faraway land
what i needed
tucked under
what became
the biggest blunder
suddenly found
torn asunder
what i found
below ground
a towering frown
a solemn town
a filled balloon
cheerfully alone
saline sadness
with a blank tone
the music played
the balloons swayed
strings frayed
up and away
tomorrow's promise
on its way
and i believed it
a thousand times
and would again
i would...

darkness
in the night
light looms bright
a glowing facade
those who applaud
the glitter, the gleam
those that are
scared -
as they seem
and the seam
separates
and the night
splits to two
the fright
isn't right
and i can't
find you
alone in the
tower
i count
by the hour
the stars
that pass by
the passersby
with only one hope
to find you there
among the moving
shadows cast
by the city's
streetlights
following loneliness
the air i breathe-
a vault entrapping
my heart
as I gasp
and I wait
all of the shadows
assume your shape
blur and bleed
into darkness
light looms bright
a glowing facade
those who applaud
the glitter, the gleam
those that are
scared -
as they seem

transformative sleep
dreaming and awake
what's at stake
what's inside
the night
you hide
you think and then
you're eyes are wide
with slumber
slowing down
it's a blunder
imagine
where you are
under a star
in a car
wearing stripes
at a bar
your pajamas
don't match
you're stuck
in a hatch
back
don't look back
arrive in your sleep
somewhere deep
awakened anew
aware and true
what's at stake
what's inside
the night
you hide
you think and then
you're eyes are wide
with slumber
slowing down
it's a blunder
imagine
where you are
under a star
in a car
wearing stripes
at a bar
your pajamas
don't match
you're stuck

don't look back
arrive in your sleep
somewhere deep
awakened anew

in the sky
where the stars are
the eyes are crossed
the soul is lost
among the vast
sea of sparkle
lost in wonder
lost and amazed
spinning, dazed
loved and tased
with a wand of
willful wishes
a wistful way
to spend the day
counting stars
finding Mars
crooked head
upon a shoulder
the treasured way
that he holds her
the eyes are crossed
the soul is lost
among the vast
sea of sparkle
lost in wonder
lost and amazed
spinning, dazed
loved and tased
with a wand of
willful wishes
a wistful way
to spend the day
counting stars
finding Mars
crooked head
upon a shoulder
the treasured way
that he holds her
where it's at
Where it's at
big top hat
cool cat
baby phat
under that?
inside there?
where it's at
where?
it's so unfair
i'm not there
stuck in here
with a tear
dropping down
into a frown
where it's at
upside down
downtown
underground
where it's at
where it is
it's all here
bring the cheer!
big top hat
cool cat

The Minivan poem for Mingo
“Minivan poem for Mingo”
Once you have a plan
And your minivan
No one can stop you
No one can!
You are at the park
With one-hundred toys
Giggles are
The only noise
Once you’re with
Your favorite ones
You’ll have fun
Tons and tons
If you get in the Van
With Mingo and friends
You’ll be on the road
Until it ends
Whatever you do
Move with the turns
curve with the bends
Spin with the rainbows
And color blends
The light will show you
The way to go
Your friends – your family
The people you know
Will take you to places
You never knew
You could go!

the sun explains
i want to write
something as deep
as an actual abyss
disappearing into space
and the words
travel with speed
and grace
to the end of time
and then rewind
wrapping up the profound
with a limitless tune
sending messages
so clear
they reach the moon
and the man
that lives
there
the one made
of cheese
is reading my words
at first perplexed,
even slightly vexed
so he asks the sun
"what has this girl done?"
"Oh" says the sun
"She's writing for fun!"
"is that so" replies the moon?
"Will I meet her soon?"
and so it goes
on
the sun and the moon
prepare their light
to shine on us
to bring us love,
laughter ...lust
betwist and between
what does it mean?
something deep I'm sure
but I don't know more
something as deep
as an actual abyss
disappearing into space
and the words
travel with speed
and grace
to the end of time
and then rewind
wrapping up the profound
with a limitless tune
sending messages
so clear
they reach the moon

prepare their light

to bring us love,

betwist and between
what does it mean?
something deep I'm sure
but I don't know more
hold hand
there's no greater
feeling
than to hold the hand
of my two-year
old little,
gigantic man
he goes through
life
no plan in mind
laughing and giggling
wandering to find
the closest thing
he can reach
he brings it to life
he brings it to me
he touches and smells
and finds all the bells
and when he says
"hold hand peease"
my heart warms
to a zillion degrees
feeling
than to hold the hand
of my two-year
old little,
gigantic man
he goes through
life
no plan in mind
laughing and giggling
wandering to find

Night
Night is driving
Around the bend
I'll follow it
To the end
The road is long
Life will lend
The path to those
That choose to send
Dreams along
Upon a song
Along a coast
Around the ridge
Over a bridge
The night is long
I'll follow it
To the end

my heart
on my sleeve
there is a heart
it can't be bought
at a mart
and no, it's not
on sale for free
and no, there is no
warranty
i wear it proud
it sings out loud
it loves, it breathes
it'll never freeze
it's been ripped
and torn apart
it's been stolen-
forlorn and lost
it beats and beats
no matter the cost
the heart i wear
is red and fair
it's easy to see
and often found
thumping and jumping
up and down
swinging around
from lung to lung
like a child
on monkey bars
from rung to rung
it's fun and young
it's filled with glee
it's been burned
and corrupted
neglected
rhythm interrupted
annihilated, erupted
and still it goes
and touches its toes
it gives and saves
both friends and foes
it knows not
the way
to lowly dredges
instead it leaps
over thorny hedges
to find the knoll
of plush, ample grass
to rest its chest,
lighten its mass
my heart
my friend
its filled with hope
its emptied and drained
and restored all the same
its sprit alive
no matter the maim
it lifts me up
and others too
it won't relent
on me
or you
there is a heart
it can't be bought
at a mart
and no, it's not
on sale for free
and no, there is no

i wear it proud

Where I am
At the top
if you can't
find me, I'll be in the tree,
if you look at me, I won't
see you, my face shaded,
a colored hue - of rainbow light
a starry day
moonlight-
a glowing earth
don't ask me why i'm in the tree
if you climb up high
maybe you'll see
where I am
with arms so long,
wispy, twisted
a body strong,
connected,
protected.
where i am
yes in the tree
the cars
the people
the world
is far
where I am
i can see
all the things
that bother me
but they can't
get me
I'm in
my
tree.

Old Flower
there was a flower
that was rather
sour
he frowned a lot
at everything
he didn't care
that it was spring
he counted down
to the hour
time till winter
set him free
he liked
to live
below
the ground
a seed in dirt
purposeless
inert
he was a flower
that didn't know
the beauty it was
to grow and grow
tall and wise
and smart and cool
he was a flower
he was a fool
and then one day
to his surprise
he could no longer
be tall nor wise
but wilted
and hurt
and stomped
down in the dirt
until he was saved
by gentle hands
that proudly
place him
in a lovely vase
and he lived out his days
with dignity
and grace
that was rather
sour
he frowned a lot
at everything
he didn't care
that it was spring
he counted down

Face
I see the curve
Of your face
The shadow of
The curtain's lace
The moonlight
Dripping
Through the clouds
The band is playing
Really loud
I have no doubt
I'm on your mind
And in a corner
You will find
A picture of me
In your memory
Framed and faded
Lost and jaded
If only we
Hadn't waited

preamble to spring break
my vacation is a fake
like a plastic snake
it sneaks up on ya
and slithers away
first laundry
then floors
revolving doors
food shop and don't stop
it's an ongoing tour
the toddler's roar
mom please one more
okay last one
the day is done
and then the next
no time to read
running full speed
a moment to rest
then the next
day is done
mom on the run
make each day fun
for her little son
and so we shine
at the park
we giggle outside
till it gets dark
and the days retreat
like a melting sweet
together we laugh
together we live
the days are a blast
they go so fast
each memory
archived
to last and last
like a plastic snake
it sneaks up on ya
and slithers away
first laundry
then floors
revolving doors
food shop and don't stop
it's an ongoing tour

For you
this is my
song to you
my heart
sings true
of words amiss
a simple glance
a lusty kiss
a delicate arm
your clumsy charm
this is my
ode to you
a favorite page
to read and read
a warm sweater,
washed and worn
a close embrace
enchanting grace
an awkward fall
that said it all
these are my
words for you
written down
sad and true
song to you
my heart
sings true
of words amiss
a simple glance
a lusty kiss
a delicate arm
your clumsy charm
this is my
ode to you
a favorite page
to read and read
a warm sweater,

This is where Part 2
This is where
way up high
in the sky
on the biggest rock
in a purple frock
we were
fairy princesses
and queens too
ordering tea
delivered by kittens
adorned in jewels
naming rules
to govern our land
with a painted hand
this is where
reality lived
in the minds of girls
atop a rock
to climb to the top
a major event
this I where
many a weekend
was spent
with kittens
and fairies
lots of
time went
to telling the stories
that colored our minds
and fitted our world
with candy topped tiaras
and sprinkles of gems
best friends by blood
of fingers pricked
by needles with tears
and joy and cheers
this is where
best friends are
together imagining
a world afar
a place of love
beauty and wealth
a place we’d go
with no one else
This is where
This is where
This is where
I saw you there
Your dreaming eyes
a pointed stare
This is where
I fell in a chair
All the while
Without a care
This is where
I sat atop
A giant, boulder
My big rock
Imagining
A strawberry lock
Grandmother’s hair
We were a pair
Fed me porridge
A long spoon
Mom told stories
About the moon
This is where
Dreams aren’t rare
Magic’s true
And so are you
Where I am
I sit in prayer
This is where
I remember you
Dear childhood

better days
a faraway past
long summer nights
that last and last
in the morning i rise
a few hours sleep
new adventures to tell
new secrets to keep
if the world steals you away
from the dreams you posess
you are giving more,
receiving less
confess to the wind
and the running stream
stand by the current
basque in its mist
breath in its force
do not resist
every chance not taken,
an opportunity missed
let the river carry you
over the stump
the wind force you along
when you're in a slump
keep rolling in grass
when you feel a bump
you're heart's alive
thump, thump, thump

Climbing the ladder
under the dark matter
of the mind chatter
lies a ladder
don't tell your enemies
they'll only get madder
don't tell the beast
he'll only get fatter
out of the dark matter
you must take the ladder
don't pity the lost
they'll only get sadder
your heart will skip
and pitter-patter
once you reach
the top of the ladder
the trip is arduous,
true, and long
down many roads
you may
travel wrong
the ladder
moves
in ways it pleases
it melts and bends,
cracks and freezes
the top is your own
all climbers must choose
their fate at the top
of this ladder of life
stuff is great
but friends are free
carefully carve
your destiny
of the mind chatter
lies a ladder
don't tell your enemies
they'll only get madder
don't tell the beast
he'll only get fatter
out of the dark matter

My Plasticine Wall
the sum
of my persistence
is community
resistance
energy
squashed
by the drooling
soulless fools
pathetic tools
enslaved by
4 walls
and a couch
and so
my plasticine
is molded - made
meticulously
a colorful
construction
to keep out
corruption
a wall of faith
that's soft
and bends
a place for joy,
to make amends
a peaceful
tower with no bars
the entrance pass -
a wondrous mind,
a heart of joy -
a hand
that's kind.

Time Tag
the test of time
wears down
all who take
it
wears them down
to the core
of the earth
resurfaced
reinvented
one's existence
an eternal energy
orb
about
to bounce back
before time
returns full speed
playing tag
with time
my whole
life through
i'm always it

lovely life
outdoors
the park bench is mine
the birds sing
in melodic dreams
their words are the beauty
that connect the seams
of the fabric that drapes
over the sun
that shines
and shades
bringing life
the birds sing
my mind wanders
in a ring
my place to go
has everything
it's where I sit
and wait
the passersby
notice
as i stare
and write
i hope they
know that my
words are like
the song of the birds
designed to capture
their sparkle
as they cross my path
to connect the stitches
of life's glitches
to piece the people
into a circle of life
no one alone
our kindred fused
by the web
of air
the bird's song
the sun
the shade
the will
to survive
we go on
when we serve
we go on
once we see
the grace that is
you and me
the park bench is mine
