i travel
with grace
in the shell
that holds me,
my gracious soul
my divine
and beautiful body
carries me
within this world
of decorative bliss
eternal trees
and light that shines
to bless us
to feed our plants
that feed us
love to fill our hearts
books to feed our souls
so full with everything
that we allow ourselves to see

twisted chick #5
So, I was going through some poetry I wrote in my 20's - here is 1
Twisted Chick 5
it's a wonder
you're still alive
you can dance
still can jive
one more line
you might die
one more hit
you will fly
living only
to get high
life is one
twisted lie
good bye
your soul is dead
before 25
it's a wonder
you're still alive

one more line

twisted lie

your soul is dead
before 25
it's a wonder
you're still alive

bells
signal to switch classes
adorn the cat so it
won't catch the mouse
a jolly bracelet that
dangles from her wrist
entwined in a young girl's
delicate ringlets - her mom
can always find her
her daughter that giggles
and chases the cat
that is still trying
to catch the mouse
in September, she will start school

beauty part 2 or 3
beauty is
being, loving yourself
being hurt and feeling beautiful anyway
the arms of those who hug us,
to make our hurt melt away
like butter on a sunny day
the smile of child
whose fleeting troubles
have just been solved
my mom's hug
to know what bothers you now
will barely be a thought in five
years
letting go of the things that
weigh you down
being surprised at your lightness
until floating is normal
being, loving yourself
being hurt and feeling beautiful anyway
the arms of those who hug us,
to make our hurt melt away
like butter on a sunny day
the smile of child
whose fleeting troubles
have just been solved
my mom's hug
to know what bothers you now
will barely be a thought in five

letting go of the things that
weigh you down
being surprised at your lightness
until floating is normal

beautiful life
beauty is
open to love,
brave and kind
a person that smiles
and shares cookies
beauty
grows inside you
and
learns something new
like how to dance
or to sing
or anything
beautiful is
being who you expect
yourself to be
being the person you want
to see again tomorrow
because you like her
open to love,
brave and kind
a person that smiles
and shares cookies
beauty
grows inside you
and
learns something new
like how to dance
or to sing
or anything
beautiful is
being who you expect
yourself to be
being the person you want
to see again tomorrow

the raindrops' dance
next to me you shall
be sheltered, lost in the song
of the raindrops' dance
kindness a rainbow
the color of our daydream
of love and chance
our words a window
into the seat of the storm
and then silence
two friends knowing
no words need be said
the sun rises
be sheltered, lost in the song
of the raindrops' dance
kindness a rainbow
the color of our daydream
of love and chance
our words a window
into the seat of the storm
and then silence
two friends knowing
no words need be said
the sun rises

earth affirmation
at one with this earth
i breathe in only goodness
and radiate light
i step with grace
upon fertile ground
i am nurtured by the wind's sound
the sky and its birds
sing to me a joyous life
that is always near
when darkness threatens
a tumultuous storm
i shroud my soul's soft form
as it always does
it passes promptly by
leaving a steady sky
i breathe in only goodness
and radiate light
i step with grace
upon fertile ground
i am nurtured by the wind's sound
the sky and its birds
sing to me a joyous life
that is always near
when darkness threatens
a tumultuous storm
i shroud my soul's soft form
as it always does
it passes promptly by
leaving a steady sky

beauty is
in his look
on the cover
of a book
the leaf of a tree
a teller's smile out her window-
the lady bug tattoo on her toe
his crooked smile...
asleep on his
Italian bathroom tile
a fairy in the air
flying through
sparkles of dust
a unsolicited compliment...
a shooting star
that's heaven sent
breathing in the
stars of the sky,
midnight blue
as your birthday wish
comes true
on the cover
of a book
the leaf of a tree
a teller's smile out her window-
the lady bug tattoo on her toe
his crooked smile...
asleep on his
Italian bathroom tile
a fairy in the air
flying through
sparkles of dust
a unsolicited compliment...
a shooting star

midnight blue
as your birthday wish

love and moonlight
beauty is being
in love and dancing under
a summer’s night sky
the cool wind draws you
closer and closer still ’till
you both disappear

watching her
the light shines through your skin
the sun captures your billowing sleeve
slow, in the fragrant orchid breeze
of spring's conclusion

freedom and truth
fireworks
stars on parade
down Hollywood Boulevard
time stops
a show of color
of desire
freedom
thank you veterans
free to watch fireworks
pray to God
or Buddha
or my blanket if I choose
free to love
who I chose
free to realize
we are not all free
the suffering of one
threatens humanity

lost in love
find yourself
on a grassy knoll
skipping in step
with your favorite song
find yourself
dancing with daisies,
singing to the moon
find yourself
find love
arrive home
on a grassy knoll
skipping in step
with your favorite song
find yourself
dancing with daisies,
singing to the moon
find yourself
find love
arrive home

go far
throw rocks at me
i'll build a garden wall
glare at me, I'll smile back
tease me and I will
take it as attention
at least i am noticed then
notice my strength,
I will see yours
i travel with ease,
with complements,
with a smile too share
this journey is too
short and too long
to travel with a glare
i'll build a garden wall
glare at me, I'll smile back
tease me and I will
take it as attention
at least i am noticed then
notice my strength,
I will see yours
i travel with ease,
with complements,
with a smile too share
this journey is too
short and too long
to travel with a glare

color and wonder haiku poem
earth’s colors course
from place to place following the
current of our thoughts
color your world
with high swings and curvy slides
visions of wonder
allow the beauty
breathe in the laughter
catch the soft rainfall
gentle on your hands
it glides along your fingers
to cleanse your spirit
be your beautiful self
with actions of grace, love
designing magic

avenger of light
when all of the days
become the last day
it is night
the light exposes
the night refrains
the darkness looms
an avenger
to disguise the day's worries
with stars
moonlight
a swing on the old, solid,
wide-plank porch
overlooking the glow
from the stream
of the moon's reflection
of what was once the day
and now is the last day
that worry is heard
because night
the avenger
has allowed us
to remember
night is magic
summer is love
the dark is really
an avenger of light
become the last day
it is night
the light exposes
the night refrains
the darkness looms
an avenger
to disguise the day's worries
with stars
moonlight
a swing on the old, solid,
wide-plank porch
overlooking the glow

surrender
delicately thin
her worn sweatshirt, rugged with sweat
joins the sun's remnants
in keeping her warm
as the moonlight
fades in -
the gleeful summer day
has become the anticipation
of a summer night
he waits by
the moonlit bay
for sunrise
to lift this
gnawing mystery
her worn sweatshirt, rugged with sweat
joins the sun's remnants
in keeping her warm
as the moonlight
fades in -
the gleeful summer day
has become the anticipation
of a summer night
he waits by
the moonlit bay
for sunrise
to lift this
gnawing mystery

update
I haven't posted in a super long time. Most of my recent writing has been haiku, and I have been posting those poems separately on my Wordpress page.
I have a book of haiku that should be released very soon! I will have more updates within the next couple weeks!
Thank you for reading this - Laurie

i keep asking why
how it began
this world:
dust
or magic
or religion
or a chemical reaction
that became life
this life
when it begins
is magic
this life
as it unfolds
is magic
this chair
these fingers
all of this
this thing in my mind
this brain that makes me think
all of this
abruptly begins and ends
and each end a new beginning
and so the loop of life
and so the paradox
life and death, light and dark
all of this
is magic
