Meatball City

Meatball City

The rumble of thunder shuts the sky ride -
Grumbles heard as people walk away

Could’ve worn my new sun dress
to Meatball City, but I didn’t want
my panties to be seen.

Before we went on anything,
the storm shattered our seashore dreams
of tall rides, of high tides.

The boardwalk was now a place to run from

Under my tank top
my swimsuit tugged on my sticky skin -
a reminder of the day’s sabotage.

As my slippery skin sticks to my
sweaty straps I think,
tomorrow will be different.

I’ll go to Meatball City in my sundress
ride the sky ride, bring an umbrella,
and swim naked.

20 Lives Saved Today

the lightning, at no risk to itself
bolted through the village sky

the metal makers yelled
"Why, Why, Why?"

Our tin-roofed houses
topped with tall spires
are sure to destruct
sure to catch fire

as people watched closely
for their certain demise
the sky opened wide
with a big surprise

The sun called out,
"Oh lightning, please leave!"
"Move towards me,
Share my light."

The thunder goaded the lightning
to put up a fight
and a slight hesitation
gave everyone a fright

but the sun's strong light
prevailed
the evil of the thunder
this time
failed

The Sun now leads
this village
living together
each day
in the light

Tinker Bell's divorce

shining full of glitter stars
and shelling out spells
of her own grandeur
Tinker Bell couldn't
ask for more

a wedding planned
Wendy on the plank
into his arms Tinker Bell fell
suddenly wedded
to Captain Hook

she loved him with
all her heart for the
twenty minutes before
she realized he was
a drinker

That didn't fit in with
her notion of a
sparkly world

her destiny doomed
and the moon loomed
over her tragic sea

Tinker Bell dialed up
her attorney
her love disintegrating
into a matching pair
of signed papers

and Peter Pan
nowhere to be found

to slowly hoodwink over time

a veiled conversation
whispered through
a hollow wall

echoing

I hear it all

rooms shift
to new spaces
filled up
by a thousand faces

off, off to the
daily races
hurrying wistfully
to new places

behind the
cracked
and faded wall

I hear it all

a thousand faces
and garbled words
all at once
become absurd
things I
wished I'd
never
heard

I hear it all

then the wall
it crumbles
and I fall

under the weight
of your thousand
faces

Tribute poem to Word

have you heard of word
the alphabet bird
flying from a to z

well i've heard
i've heard of word
he found me
amidst many poets
of the goole world

he built a place
for us to go
the dreamers
the writers
the day-glo
gleamers

the political speakers - out
the ones who want to shout

this group of people
people like us

he made us great
and to boot
he's an alphabet bird
full of great words

from A to Z

i'm glad he

found me

Unfinished dreams lie
Among the gold at the end
Of rainbows wishing
That each hopeful person

A walking tanka

Walking on forward
The dark path suddenly splits
I choose the bright side
Full of light I wander on
Wearing translucent shimmer
