in the night (haiku)

i am light to share
wander among fireflies
all of us aglow

i still remember his name

i chased him and followed
my sixth grade crush

forever I'd love him
i was so sure

i bicycled past his house
each day right on time
in hopes of a glimpse
of his green sea eyes
and faded blue jeans

he never showed up
except in my mind

if i had talked to him
would i have changed
the course of time?

i heard he got into drugs
and disappeared

if i had been his friend, would
i have changed the course of time?

i bicycled past his house

common, irreplaceable
beings of the night

seashore

below the water
her soft breath, a soothing mist
of taffy bubbles

peer pressure

walk lightly among
the crowd to not let yourself
feel any pressure

running

chasing a daisy
her skirt stuck on a cornstalk
she smiles at the sky

secret spot

Better things

Come slow

Sit in an orchid field

Watching wind and petals blow

Let time be a worry

You don’t know

Cuddle with your picnic blanket

And nibble

One by one

a big bunch of grapes, seedless and green

Sip some cold hibiscus and lemon tea

Keep a place in your life

Where you are free
