this life

when the night
becomes the day again,
the days blur

the routine drains
the routine is peace

break the routine
into pieces

build a rainbow
that reaches a star

name that star
at midnight exactly

at 6 am exactly
night will become day again

i will have forgotten
to try something new
or perhaps I won't have
been brave enough

i haven't spoken
in a while
not really

at 6 am tomorrow,
a new day will begin.
this time,
i will relish its moments
instead of counting the minutes.

smile at a neighbor
rather than rush inside
to get chores
done

laugh at the baby
instead of chasing after
his crumbs with a broom

one day the day
will become night again
forever
